That is not actually true Louis. I've worked for the last ten years for a Hasidic Jewish company and they don't recognize January 1 as New Year's day. To them it comes in the fall at Rosh Hashanah, using the Jewish calendar and the year turned to 5775 this past September. The Jewish schools are open today, but as all our other customers are closed today, I do get the day off!!!!

But I was careful not to wish my bosses a Happy New Year when I left work last night. Although one of them did wish a happy new year to me, as he knows that I celebrate January 1st.

Your post, mikey, illustrates the danger in using universal words such as all, every, never, etc. Even in other religions there is a distinction. While in the Catholic Church we recognize Jan. 1 as the beginning of the secular new year, the church's New Year starts on the First Sunday of Advent (four or five Sundays depending on the liturgical calendar), the season leading up to Christmas.
