I post this in memory of all who have fallen defending their countries for their freedoms and dreams to make their lands a better place to live.

This is dedicated to all people all over the world who have fought under their flags to retain their existence on our earth with pride and purpose.

well said I couldn't have said better than that, in fact it brought a tear to my eye. God bless. X

Thank you, Dan. I know your country has experienced much devastation through wars. But, I stand here side by side with you as brothers in our mutual quest for that which we deserve and crave.

This is also a song which is one that has brought tears to my eyes every time I have heard it played. No one has ever been able to perform this song as she. I know I am aging myself now, but I used to love it when she appeared on some of the TV variety shows. This is a vintage tape of when she first introduced this song. Enjoy!

I would be proud to have you stood by my side

I thought I would share with you one of the poems I wrote, its not one of my best but I thought that its appropriate to the topic and the day. God bless

From the smallest ant upon the ground
to the beautiful stars above,
there is a world full of
friendship, happiness and love.

But there is this war
fuelled by anger and greed
that in all our hearts
nobody needs.

There is all this bloodshed
anger and pain, that in this
world is such a shame.

Friends have been lost
and also those we care for
all because of this
pointless war.

So please lay down
the guns, bombs and knives
and allow each other
to live our lives.

Then when the fighting
has stopped and the
smoke has cleared
the sun can shine and
burn away the tears.

Finally we can all sleep
with our loved ones at
night, not a worry, fear
or war in sight.

Being the old curmudgeon that I am, this will always be Decoration Day. May the souls of all those who paid the ultimate price in service to their countries, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

I am sorry for taking up so much time on this thread. The fact is that my father served during WWII. I served during the Viet Nam war. I lost friends during that time as well as a high school friend of mine.

The United States if a fairly new country in the history of times. Yes, we had our conflicts with our American/Indian wars, our civil war and not to mention the battles we endured to separate ourselves from the mother nation. We were a nation standing alone and getting stronger as each day passed. The original immigrants struggled and sacrificed to make this land their dream of hope.

We stood with our fellow countries and fought side by side during WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam. However, the biggest blow to our country was on September 11, 2001. That was the day "The Earth Stood Still." The fact that the US had been attacked in that magnitude shocked the world. We were hit on three fronts, not just one. Two men who were killed in the Towers were graduates of the college at worked at and knew them well. I've experienced times of war but never did I imagine I would experience the loss of colleagues in a senseless attack.

Today is also a sad and confusing day in our country. A troubled young man took it upon himself to take the lives of others because he felt alone and rejected. I heard a similar incident occurred in Belgium today.

We must remember to give tribute to not only those that have fallen in war but also those who have fallen in senseless crimes.

Peace!
Louis
