To all forumites who celebrate the "Festival of Lights", I wish you all a happy and joyous holiday season! And don't eat too many latkes (potato pancakes).

Yes, Happy Hanukkah to you mikey, and all other Jewish fellow Broke Straight Boys members and forumites.

Question, mikey: I've seen the holiday spelled Chanukah and Hanukkah. What is the origin of the different spellings?

NOTE TO Broke Straight Boys MANAGEMENT: I don't know if you get all those smilies from somewhere else or create them yourself, but when I went looking the other day, there are no Hanukkah smilies (Menorah, dredyl, etc.). which I would like to have used. Would be appropriate and appreciated if you obtain or create some. Also a Star of David would be nice. We have Christmas, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's Day, etc. Let's add to the diversity. Thanks.

Thank you for your good wishes Stowe. As far as the spelling of the Hebrew words, it is a totally different set of characters, so there is no "correct" spelling in English. It is just different pronunciations of words. There is an almost guttural "chu" sound that we don't have an English letter for, so some use "H" and others "Ch" for Chanukah.

I found an example on google of Hebrew letters.
