Today, April 21 marks the 89th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is her actual birthday. Her official birthday is celebrated on a Saturday in June when she will preside and other Royals will attend the Trooping of The Colours.

I was 10 and a half yrs when she acceded to the throne upon the death of her father. The pictures in Look and Life magazines and the reports on television (we had one by then) mesmerized me. If I lived in England I'd be a strong advocate for keeping the Queen or King as head of state and the system the way it is now.

She is the only English Monarch I can remember. She is a classy and dignified ruler and as a statesman she has forgotten more than most of the people in the government know.

Long live The Queen !!

Thank you, Stowe (XOXOXOXOXO) ~

I never forget Her Majesty's birthday - because it is the same as my favourite Aunt's. (Though my beloved Aunt, who baked me cakes, and gave me comic-books, when we were struggling on the farm - has since passed on.)

Like you, Stowe, Her Majesty is the only monarch I can remember. Though some of my old Scots Great-Aunts were infatuated with Edward VIII, during his short reign, they all disapproved of Mrs. Simpson (later, the Duchess of Windsor). They HEARTILY approved of King George VI, however - because he married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, a real Scotswoman ;-)

When I was a wee lad, always, Christmas Day, we'd get up very early, eat our porridge, and her H.M. Queen Elizabeth deliver her Christmas address, on radio. In later years, we slept later and saw the re-broadcast on the CBC, after opening presents, but - it was never quite the same.

The role of a British (and Commonwealth) monarch is limited and proscribed, but - as I have always contended, and queried - who would one rather have, as the emblem of one's nation? George W. Bush? Or E II R??? I am happy to have had the latter.

And, Jon - you are a very cheeky lad, indeed ;-)

"A" XOXOXOXOXOXO
