In Archie's GTKY video I almost fell out of my chair when he led off by saying how he lived in South Florida after leaving Jersey. Then he totally went off-script from South Florida by saying that he spent a lot of time at his gradparents' home in Plant City. OMG! Plant City is due east from Tampa and is nowhere near "South Florida". David's chuckle said it all as they both agreed that it's a very slow rural place. If I was a young kid growing up in Plant City, I'd probably end up watching a lot of TV also. haha It's Kuntry with a capital 'K'. lol It has the great Florida weather. But it's not close to the water. And cosmopolitan it's not. You want a nice higher end restaurant? Prepare to drive to Lakeland to the east or Tampa to the west. Want to see a concert or a show? Same options. Want to go to a shopping mall? Same options. Want to go out to some nice clubs? Prepare to drive to Tampa.
The company I worked for in Tampa for many many years had a headquarters of sorts in Plant City. Much cheaper real estate there, etc. I had to go there for meetings once or twice a year.
Plant City's claim to fame is that it's home to the annual Florida Strawberry Festival. It's usually around March when the majority of the Florida strawberry crop comes in. California provides most of the summer strawberry crop for the country, while Florida provides most of the national winter crop. They have all kinds of food booths, live shows with some somewhat big name talent, arts and crafts for sale, a petting zoo with goats and sheep and a few other animals... Strawberries sold fresh by the quart or the flat. Strawberry shortcake. Strawberry pies. Homemade strawberry jam. Strawberries over ice cream. Ice cream over strawberies, with whipped cream on top. You get the picture. haha It's like a mini State Fair in the winter. But with a very "Old Florida" kind of "Cracker" charm to it. One year my mom and I went there and saw Loretta Lynn perform.
The real Florida State Fair is in Tampa. Much bigger, more amusement rides, more shows, tons of good food, quirky food, more of everything. Fried Snicker's bar anybody? haha It's in Tampa mostly because the Tampa Bay area is heavily populated,
and because geographically it's almost at the dead center of the Florida peninsula.

I'm cracking up over the Before the Scene video where Archie's so happy (in Miami) to see beaches, pretty people with teeth, etc. And David said that's because he lives in Bum-fuck Florida.
