Another piece of my childhood died today when I learned that original mouseketeer Annette Funicello passed today at age 70 after a lengthy battle with MS.

She also appeared in many of the beach movies of the early 1960's, often with her "Beach Blanket Bingo" costar, Frankie Avalon, but I suppose that she will be best remembered as a Mouseketeer and my final tribute to Annette is to give her the traditional closing sendoff:

Now its time to say goodbye
to all our company.
M-I-C (see you real soon)
K-E-Y(why? because we like you)
M-O-U-S-E.

My mom will be very sad I'm sure. Annette was a beautiful and lovely woman.

Annette was the Farah Fawcett of her day!

In her day in the late 1950's and 60's, Annette was the "Princess" of her generation, no less the dream girl of her day. She manifested the look of her day that ALL other girls wanted to emulate and horny, pimple-ridden young boys just dreamed of touching her creamy smooth skin. Anything more would have set off a chain reaction of pre-mature ejaculations from coast to slimy coast, causing a tidal-wave unlike which has yet to be seen before, much less smelled. :sign0020:

I remember watching her for years on the Mickey Mouse Club and she was always "the bell of the ball". If you were alive and older 6 years old, she had to be your ideal! With her being stricken with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis. May she rest in peace!

Sincerely sorry to see her go,

Stimpy

I can remember watching those Beach party movies but mainly to see Frankie Avalon. I can remember Annette from the MMC and thanks mikey for that nice tribute. She always handled herself in a classy manner and she carried the burden of her disease with grace and dignity. I will close these comments with a prayer from our shared Catholicism - "May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."

Too bad. She went public with the disease years ago because people saw the trouble she had walking and thought she was just another drunk celebrity. I wonder what ever became of Spin, Marty and Cubby? And those 1960's guys in the Beach movies: Wow.

As long as you asked Christopher, I did some research and found this youtube video made in 2010 where the two stars of Spin & Marty, Tim Considine and David Stollery talk about the experience and include a scene with Annette Funicello.

Tim Considine goes on to talk about appearing on The Hardy Boys & My Three Sons, (although my favorite son was always Don Grady who played Robbie.
